On Saturday, September 13, Ten Thousand Villages of Nashville will welcome the fall season by encouraging sustainable approaches to entertaining at One Earth-Friendly Entertaining Event. From food preparation to table design, participants will gain insight into planning seasonal gatherings in harmony with the earth.
Benjamin and Bonnie Surmi, representatives of Food Security Partners, will speak about Community Supported Agriculture and the advantages of buying and preparing fresh, locally grown foods at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Customers will enjoy three freshly prepared selections from Ten Thousand Villages' cookbook Simply in Season, sampling Zucchini Garden Chowder, Fruit Kuchen and Fresh Summer Salsa while learning about setting their table in eco-entertaining style. The new fall collection at Ten Thousand Villages combines beauty with utility, offering unique designs inspired by nature. Glasses, baskets, trays and tableware handcrafted from recycled and sustainable materials will be featured. Three Simply in Season cookbooks will be given to customers who complete a simple Sustainability Scavenger Hunt. After exploring the store for products made from recycled and sustainable materials, participants will be entered in drawings for the cookbooks, held throughout the afternoon. Materials will also be available from Nashville Public Works, explaining the ins and outs of recycling in the Nashville community.
