The CoolMomsCare Celebration Garden: Bees and Honey 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
|
Come out to The Franklin Farmer’s Market from 8 AM until 1 PM. CoolMomsCare will be in the Celebration Garden with activities, music, crafts, and fun from 9 AM until 11 AM. Bring the kiddos for bees and honey with Brunswick Beeworks.
Kids can learn how beekeepers get up close and personal with their honeybees on. Brunswick Beeworks will be on hand to discuss beekeeping and to answer the question every kid wants to know: “Do you get stung a lot?" In addition to their small observation hive, Jeff and Laura Otto will bring along some of the accessories beekeepers use to tend their hives, including a smoker, protective gloves, and a veil. Kids will have a chance to try on the equipment and take a look inside a real hive body (sans bees) like the ones Brunswick Beeworks uses on the bee farm. Kids also can learn how to identify a queen bee (without looking for a dot) and help name the new queen that recently hatched in the observation hive. Brunswick Beeworks is a micro-apiary in Arrington, eight miles from the Franklin Farmers Market (as the bee flies), that specializes in fresh, raw honey, beeswax candles, and beeswax skin care products. The Ottos recently planted over 200 lavender plants in their bee yard in hopes of producing lavender honey and other value-added products in 2009. Franklin Farmers' Market
