Pick a Mascot
The Olympics can represent a lot. No matter where you stand on the controversial issues surrounding the 2008 Olympics, there is definitely a possibility to "unite the world in peace and friendship through the Olympic spirit." The mascots of these Olympics are five colored characters similar to the five Olympic rings. They are designed to demonstrate the playfulness of five children united in a circle of friendship. They also highlight four of China's most popular animals, and the last character represents the Olympic flame. Today, ask your child to choose one they like best and read to them about the character and what it symbolizes. CONTEST: Tell us what you think of the Olympics in the comments below and you'll be entered to win The Great Race, a children's book about China, provided by Barfefoot Books!
