What's On Your Skin?

See what's in the soap your kids are using.

We've talked about the importance of what goes in your body from a nutrition standpoint, and what you put on your body for protection, but what about the soap your family uses? Many children's soaps contain an ingredient known as cocamidopropyl betaine, which may cause irritant reactions. So, if you’re looking for an alternative today, check your labels and see if you can find some without it.

I am always on the lookout for botanical personal care products for my family. I have made a swing toward green natural organics outside as well as inside our bodies. But I have to be very vigillant as I am allergic to coconut and coconut is a prominate ingrediate in many, if not most of these products.

I also think the containers should be considered as important to consumers and try to be as considerate with that as well.

Why wouldn't I look for natural skin care products - do you know what is in the regular stuff? Lotions and shampoos contain chemicals that interfere with your hormones and have ones that are linked to cancer. Even the most popular baby lotions and shampoos have these chemicals.

Traditional soaps contain surfactants that make your skin more permeable. This means more chemicals from the environment (including everyday toxic ones) can make it through your skin and into your bloodstream.

I love my body, and my family's bodies. I want us to remain healthy. I love the earth and want to do my part to preserve it. This is why I choose natural skin care products. Plus they smell better and do wonders on our skin!
