5 minutes of caring
S.W.A.K.
Write a real letter to someone you know and S.W.A.K. (seal with a kiss). People rarely use snail mail anymore, but we all love to open our mail box to find something other than bills or junk mail. Today, have your kids write a real letter. Have them choose a person, the perfect card, take the time to write (or dictate, if they cannot write yet), sign, and seal with a kiss (SWAK). Let them stamp it and venture to the mail box. After all their hard work, let them know how much it says to the recipient; it's not just a letter but a conscious effort to show someone else they care.

As a girl my father had a stamp collection and I would spend hours looking at those tiny works of art. In many ways, it was the closest thing to having an art gallery for a small town girl in Iowa.
Now when I look at stamps, and the letters that they adorn, I yearn for more real mail and often do write someone I love (family or friends) just for the sheer joy of thinking how happy they will be to receive this "real mail" just as it always brightens my day.
And yes, I always pick commemoratives, with my cause or interests in mind. It has always been like a mini-soapbox for me.
