Frequently Asked Questions
What is Cool People Care?
Cool people care is a website that is hoping to spark a revolution. Believing that ordinary people can change their worlds in less than 5 minutes a day, Cool People Care seeks to educate, motivate and inform people how to do just that. For more in depth information, visit our About page.
I don't live in Tennessee. Why should I visit your site?
Our only features that are city-specific are our Act Locally events calendar and our Partner Page. We begun in Nashville on August 18, 2006 and added other Tennessee cities, like Memphis, Chattanooga, and Knoxville, on February 5, 2007. As more and more people visit and enjoy the site from outside of Tennessee, we'll expand to meet the needs of our users. Stay tuned to the site to see where we'll be next. And, if you believe in what we're doing and would love to see CoolPeopleCare in your neighborhood, email us and we'll start talking about ways to launch in your city.
How do I look at events in my city?
If your fair city is listed in our city dropdown menu, you can switch between cities in our Events and Partners sections to view those cities events and partners. To make your city the permanent choice from which to pull calendar events, you need to register for the site and choose your city in your profile.
So do you guys think you have the "cool" market cornered?
Absolutely not. There are lots of companies and products out there that promise you that you'll be cool if you just stick some money in their pockets. But we're not about that. We just think that the truly ‘cool' people out there (the people we respect and admire) are those who give back and make a difference. In our opinion, cool people care.
What is a partner, and how do I become one?
Partners are nonprofits, charities and change agents in local communities who believe in and support what we're trying to do. There are various stages of involvement for partners, so send us an email and we'll give you all the details.
What is "a COOLPLACE"?
A COOLPLACE is a website that supports what CoolPeopleCare is doing. While 'support' may seem like an ambigous verb, most websites that are COOLPLACEs agree with our values and want to tell others about what we're doing. If you'd like your site, blog or MySpace page to be a COOLPLACE, copy the code below and paste it into your site -- it will display the lovely badge below.

I care. How do I share my 5 minutes and true life stories?
If you've got a great 5 Minutes of Caring or a great and practical More Time on Your Hands, send us an email and we'll try to feature your experience. You'll get a sweet byline and network of influence.
Is CoolPeopleCare a for-profit or not-for-profit company?
Call us social entrepreneurs. There are nearly 1.4 million nonprofits in the United States. We exist to support these great organizations, and feel that we can better carry out that mission by not being one. We aim to be an example of how for-profit businesses can have a social purpose and change the world. That being said, once we have generated more income than expenses, we have every intent to donate a percentage of our profits to the CoolPeopleCare Foundation, aimed at helping people get their world-changing ideas off the ground.
I'd like to advertise. How do I do that?
For advertising rates, placements and prices, you can download prices here -- or contact us and we'll get back with you within one business day. We're happy to work with you and your specific advertising budget and needs.
What are other ways I can support CoolPeopleCare.org?
The best support you can give us, of course, takes less than 5 minutes and you don’t even have to leave your seat -- tell people about us:
- link to us on your blog
- become our MySpace friend or join our Facebook group
- email everyone you know and tell them to go to our site
- insert the CoolPlace button on your or your organization’s website
- visit our partners’ websites
- sign up for our daily emails
- email articles, events, and 5MOC to your friends
- or just call your mom and tell her to visit
And, if you have extra money lying around that you’d like to give away, you can make a direct donation to our efforts. Unfortunately, donations are not tax-deductible. Neither is the immense feeling of satisfaction you’ll get, but it will be worth it. Contact us to find out more.
